The head on this Japanese axe is made from laminating a softer, impact absorbing steel, that is less brittle and more durable, with a high-carbon content steel, similar to how samurai swords are manufactured. This technique provides excellent edge retention. The long, tapered head o 8-1/4-in long, with a 3-1/4-in wide cutting edge and weighs 3.7-lbs. This axe will handle felling, limbing and light splitting. It has a straight profile handle made from Japanese white oak. Overall length is 35-1/2". (Note: The handle wedge in the axe eye protrudes out a full inch and can be hammered in as needed should the head ever need tightening.)
